Heather Jackson "Border collies are nippy, they get excited they don't cause massive injuries to the head and neck that require overnight hossy stays . These are not borders these are pit mixes , it's obvious even in this crappy picture , shorter wide snout muscled chest.............."

THERE'S 2 MAIN THINGS TO NOTE WHEN DEALING WITH BSL PROPONENTS :

1. ALL DOGS THAT ATTACK REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE "MUST'" HAVE PITBULL

    IN THE BREEDING,

2. IF A DOG INVOLVED IN ATTACK IS DETERMINED TO BE A PITBULL THEN IT'S CLEARLY A

"PITBULL" ISSUE WHEREAS IF AN ATTACK INVOLVES A "NON' PITBULL THEN IT'S CLEARLY

    A PARENTING ISSUE.

EITHER WAY THEY PROMOTE DEATH TO ALL PITBULLS REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY'VE

MISBEHAVED OR NOT THE FACT IS THE AVERAGE FOR DOG ATTACK FATALITIES OVER THE

PAST 2 DECADES HAS BEEN 23.2/YEAR WITH 25 DEATHS BEING ATTRIBUTED TO PITBULLS

IN 2014 AND CONSIDERING THERE'S 4-6MILLIONS PITBULLS IN AMERICA A LOT OF INNOCENT

DOGS AND OWNERS ARE SUFFERING NEEDLESSLY BECAUSE OF THE ACTIONS OF A FEW?

A 15-month-old boy underwent surgery to facial injuries after being attacked by his family dog in Brisbane's north on Sunday.

  • Heather Jackson Great , pit bull border collie mixes now ,
  • Nicholas Valentine Yet another case of lax adult supervision . The attack was witnessed by several adults as the dog became over excited whilst plating with the child - what is wrong with these people . Collies bite moving objects , and here we have another facial bite .

  • Lorena McGovern These idiots make me furious with their dumbass dogs. Every damn dog's gotta be pit or half-pit now or these freaks aren't happy. Then when their abominations try to eat a kid, people like Nicholas point to lax supervision rather than the real problem, which is putting pit genes in every goddamn dog under the sun!!
  • Nicholas Valentine You have no proof that these are Pit crosses . Blue Heelers are strong headed and prick-eared like the dog that is clearest in the photo . There is also no evidence that the offending dog is even in the picture , in fact it most likely isn't . I have seen proper Border Collies rip sheep to bits and tear the skin off a horses leg , some of them are not toys . The people who aren't happy unless there's Pit in every damn dog are the ones in this group !
  • Amanda Alexandra Hayes-Egerton Collie's can be nasty if not exercised and trained. I wish they would publish the full details. I see two terriers and I can't quite make out the dark dog. Why would anyone leave a child with three dogs? I wouldn't trust any dog or child. A baby gate should be between them at all times unless there is someone in the room to give the dog and child boundaries.
I'm not defending the dog but young children will put their face in the dogs face, cause accidental harm by standing on the dog, hair and tail pull etc. Even a good dog will react to pain.
When I have children they will be separated from my dogs, unless I am in the room and I'm able to enforce boundaries. I can't help judge the parent/owner of the child and dogs.
  • Julia Lewis The offending dogs so often turn out to be pits or pit mixes.
  • Regan Cornish It's the kid's fault! For acting like a 15 month old!
    I would've shot that dog.
  • Vonnie Harvey Dunn Exactly Regan Cornish! When will these toddlers stop acting like toddlers and getting all these sweet, innocent dogs scolded? I wonder why there's any question about what will be done with the dog!!
  • Mia Johnson I'm sure the parents will be very reassured to learn most of you are more interested in arguing about dogs or blaming the child than about his severe facial injuries.
  • Vonnie Harvey Dunn Mia Johnson didn't you recognize the sarcasm in those statements? We are just parroting the nutters.
  • Amanda Alexandra Hayes-Egerton I wasn't blaming the child.... I was blaming the parents for putting their child in that situation. DOGS AND YOUNG CHILDREN NEED TO BE KEPT APART! EVERY BREED OF DOG CAN ATTACK A CHILD!
I wonder how many pit owners (or dog owners in general) allow the

  • Julee Lawrence Sons of bitches! I hate it when it's a baby!
  • Lesley Karen Luscombe The dog that bit the little child was an Australian Kelpie crossed with a Border Collie. It is the dark-coloured dog featured in the pictures, and it has been seized. The other dogs pictured above weren't involved.

The baby has a nasty cut to the face

  • Nicholas Valentine There is no Pit Bull in this dog . I have no doubt that the toddler was tormenting it in some way because a 15 month old doesnt understand differently . It is the adult guardians who watched the incident unfold's responsibility to safeguard the child , and yes Lorena people like me are going to point this out .

  • Amanda Alexandra Hayes-Egerton "A number of people witnessed the attack, in which the dog reportedly became over-excited while playing with the child."

Trainers/ behaviourists suggest not to let dogs play with other dogs for more than 5 minutes at a time, as play will get rougher and rougher and it can end in fighting. Dogs don't know when to stop playing, neither do children.

  • Lesley Karen Luscombe I would not go so far as to say 'I have no doubt the toddler was tormenting it' - that is victim blaming of the worst kind.

A 15-month old is not responsible in any way.

Responsibility here lies not ONLY with the parents but with that 'number of people who witnessed the attack' and who did NOT react appropriately to ensure that the baby wasn't hurt AND that the dog was not going to become over-excited and hurt the baby.

Not entirely happy with the term 'over-excited' - my dogs get over-excited, but they don't bite. A severe bite tends to bring other dog emotions to mind, but 'over-excitement' isn't one of them, with all its connotations of happy fun.

  • Lesley Karen Luscombe 'I have no doubt that the toddler was tormenting it in some way' - this is not a kind way to talk about a baby. 'Torment' implies action born of hindsight - a cruelty enjoyed.

  • Vonnie Harvey Dunn It doesn't matter what the baby did or didn't do! Dogs should NOT bite anyone, especially. I've had plenty of dogs-at its worst "over excited" resulted in them peeing in the floor.

  • Lesley Karen Luscombe Quite, Vonnie. What happened to people, that they think it is worth looking for a catalyst when a child is mutilated or killed by a damn dog! What happened to dogs as our pets, our friends, our companions, our comforts.

I dislike this 'new norm' thoroughly.

  • Vonnie Harvey Dunn Yes. When I was young if a dog bit someone it was shot. Didn't matter why. No days we have people accusing babies of "tormenting". Dogs know what babies are. With their own pups they don't maul the annoying pups.
